Microcrystalline wax holds oil and adds flexibility, so it is used in shoe and furniture polish, lipsticks and creams, rubber and tyre compounds, hot-melt adhesives, sealants and candle blends to raise melting point and reduce sweating.

Microcrystalline wax is a petroleum wax with very fine crystals. It is more flexible, sticky and oil-retaining than paraffin wax, which makes it ideal for polishes, cosmetics, rubber and adhesives.
Paraffin wax has large crystals, is harder and more brittle, and melts at about 56–66 °C. Microcrystalline wax has fine crystals, is more flexible and adhesive, and has a higher melting point of about 70–90 °C.
